Update: Intermittent Closures of North Access Road in Wilmington During Harry Bridges Boulevard Resurfacing
Traffic to the TraPac Container Terminal will be diverted at Fries Avenue
LOS ANGELES ― Caltrans announces the intermittent closure of North Access Road in Wilmington from July 6-18 while crews perform pavement resurfacing work on Harry Bridges Boulevard. During closures of North Access Road, all traffic to the TraPac Container Terminal will be diverted at Fries Avenue. Electronic message signs in the project area will denote the specific dates of closures.
Resurfacing activities on Harry Bridges Boulevard will primarily occur overnight, Monday night through Saturday morning, at 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Daytime electrical work near North Access Road will occur on July 15-17 between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. At least one lane in both directions of Harry Bridges Boulevard will remain open throughout the construction period.
During closures of North Access Road, traffic from Harry Bridges Boulevard to the TraPac Container Terminal will be detoured as follows:
South on Fries Avenue; west on South Access Road; and north on Pier A Street.
All work on the Harry Bridges Boulevard corridor is expected to be completed from June 29 to early August. This resurfacing effort is part of a broader series of improvements to local roads that will be used or impacted by detour traffic during the 16-month closure of the Vincent Thomas Bridge, scheduled to begin on November 1, 2026.

Caltrans to Begin Overnight Pavement Work on Harry Bridges Blvd in Wilmington
WILMINGTON — Caltrans (District 7) will implement overnight single-lane closures on Harry Bridges Boulevard between North Figueroa Street and Alameda Street in Wilmington beginning Monday, June 29. Closures will occur nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday night through Saturday morning, allowing crews to resurface the roadway.
Traffic flow will be maintained in both directions of Harry Bridges Boulevard during the closures. This work will affect one direction of travel per closure and be completed prior to the start of the full closure of the Vincent Thomas Bridge, which is scheduled to begin on November 1, 2026.
Harry Bridges Boulevard is one of several local roads that will receive improvements through the deck replacement project, as they will serve as part of the designated detour route for the 16-month closure of the Vincent Thomas Bridge.
This work is part of the Vincent Thomas Bridge Deck Replacement Project. A critical infrastructure project totaling $752.8 million, the deck replacement will require partial and full closures of the bridge over the next two years.
