Rep. Barragán Welcomes EPA's Regan to LA to Highlight Environmental Justice Issues

THURSDAY (August 19): Rep. Barragán Welcomes EPA Administrator Regan to Los Angeles to Highlight Environmental Justice Issues.


On Thursday, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan will join Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán and local activists to discuss environmental justice issues in Los Angeles County.

Congresswoman Barragán will lead Administrator Regan on a tour of her district to show him some of the neighborhoods severely affected by pollution, and facilitate discussions between Administrator Regan and Los Angeles County residents who live near these polluted sites.

At about 3:15 pm at the Wilmington Boys & Girls Club, they will hear from local advocates, make brief remarks, take questions, and then look at oil drilling sites right next to homes and the Boys & Girls Club.

WHAT:

  • Local environmental justice advocates will speak with Administrator Regan and Congresswoman Barragán. Journalists are invited to observe that conversation.

  • Congresswoman Barragán and Administrator Regan will make brief remarks and take journalists’ questions. Congresswoman Barragán will point out the oil tanks and oil pump directly across the street.

  • Congresswoman and Administrator will then invite journalists to walk 15 – 20 yards to a basketball court and the wall dividing it from a field with an oil pump and oil tanks, pointing out all the homes on the other side of the field.

  • Next, they will invite journalists to join them on a 2-minute drive to the site of a working oil pump immediately between two homes and right in the middle of a residential neighborhood.
